About Us
Based in Anchorage, the Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN) is a member-based organization of 25 independent public radio stations spread across Alaska. These stations pool their resources to create and share news and public affairs programming of statewide value, boosting service to Alaska’s citizens.
Programming / News
APRN’s flagship news program, Alaska News Nightly, is a weekday evening 30-minute news show produced year-round. APRN also produces Alaska Morning News and the Alaska Economic Report each weekday morning, weekend newscasts and Talk of Alaska, a weekly statewide call-in program, Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
In addition to news content, APRN also produces a weekly statewide Alaskan culture and news program, AK. Started in the fall of 2003, the nationally award-winning AK collects stories from across Alaska and profiles the fascinating people and places of the Last Frontier.
Organization
APRN is a division of Alaska Public Telecommunications, Inc. (APTI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Anchorage. APTI is dedicated to public service media for Alaska via television (KAKM), radio (KSKA) and APRN.
APRN’s mission and services are governed by the APTI Board of Directors, which includes representation from around the state, including representatives from APRN stations. Member stations, through the APRN News Board, monitor matters of programming, journalistic ethics and station services.
Duncan Moon, an award-winning journalist with extensive national and international experience manages APRN on a day to day basis.
Funding
APRN relies upon several crucial funding streams. First, it receives dues from member stations for services provided each year. APRN also gets financial support from corporate underwriters whose messages are embedded in our broadcast programs. We also receive intermittent funding from federal grant-making agencies (often for capital/equipment upgrades), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the State of Alaska and other public and private foundations, such as the Rasmuson Foundation in Anchorage. Individual financial gifts are also accepted from major donors to APTI.
