Talk of Alaska: Bikes and Alternative Forms of Transportation

Anchorage is looking at a new bicycle plan aimed at encouraging utility biking, increasing bicycle use, and reducing accidents involving bicycles.  U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood made a surprise appearance at the National Bike Summit last week and announced a new policy to put walking and bicycling on an equal footing with vehicle travel in future federally funded transportation projects.  He said “It’s what the people want.  They want livability, and they want to be able to bicycle and walk to work.”   We’ll
have guests to give some progress reports on bicycling and public transportation in Alaska
