Prince Rupert container port may assist southeast Alaska exports

A recently-opened container port in Prince Rupert, British Columbia offers new export opportunities for Southeast Alaska. But a system is not yet in place for shipping the region’s goods to the terminal, about 90 miles southeast of Ketchikan. And one barge company says the region lacks the volume needed to make using the port feasible.
