A four- to five-fold increase in electric rates is shocking ($0.11/kwh to maybe $0.50/kwh) and will hit full-time residents more than legislators (who do the budget.)

As a comparison, in Bethel we currently pay $0.39/kwh plus 6% sales tax plus something called “customer charge” (flat $10.98).

For 390 kwh (about the very least usage possible) costs $172.19 Power cost equalization knocks off $0.2162 or $84.32 for final total of $87.87

If anything we should get more assistance to rebuild the hydro plant which is much more environmentally clean and sustainable than burning all of that oil!
