I attended an electric car demonstration race at Phoenix International Raceway in 1994 or 1995. GM has an electric car with a motor about the size of the old one-pound coffee cans that had set the world electric car speed record at 187 mph. There was an Indy open wheeled race car there that turned several laps at 100+ mph. And the main event had 38 gasoline to electric conversions done by high schooler and others from all across the country. I have photos. It was an exciting event and seemed to me to indicate the auto industry is dragging its feet in electric car production. A final note, Matanuska Electric Association, Palmer, Alaska, owned an electric car back in the 1960s or 1970s. Bill Foster and MEA manager spoke of driving it. He passed on a couple of years ago..
