House takes up predator control bill debate

The House today opened debate on a bill that establishes harvest by humans as the top priority for moose, caribou and deer populations. It also sets up a procedure for allowing intensive management of predators – including same day airborne hunting — to help boost the number of animals available for that purpose. In introducing the bill, Governor Palin said the current practice of authorizing predator control programs is complex and unworkable.

Please allow for more intensive approach to control the predators in Alaska. Open the boundry’s on the wolf control areas and allow for baiting and same day land and shooting of brow/grizzly bears. Our moose populations are suffering and have been for years. The 56,000 signatures on the pettition asking for the vote to decide further predator controll measures, should only be legitimized by their purchase and use of an Alaska hunting/trapping licence for the preceiding ten years as to give substance to the history and understanding of the issue. Do not be swayed in your actions by special interest groups ill cocieved opinions and humanization of predators and animals. Do not let them dictate how we manage our resources in this state. Predator managment now to signifacantly reduce wolf and bear populations and continued plans to keep predator levels in check. This is what is best for Alaska do not allow a vote and lets fix this imbalance. Ian Ives.
