A dog in the team of Minnesotan Jen Freking was killed Sunday night by a snowmachine. Freking was on the trail between Galena and Nulato, near Koyukuk. Iditarod officials say her dog Lorne was killed and another was hurt when they were hit around 10:00 p.m. last night. They said Freking is devastated, but has decided to continue on the trail. This is the second dog death in this year’s Iditarod.

Any Alaskan that isn’t aware that the Iditirod is on at this time (especially if they are thinking of snowmobiling) and aren’t aware that they should be careful shouldn’t be allowed to own a snowmobile! My deepest sympathy to the dog owners.

    From NC Wisconsin’s smowmobile country,

    Iditirod fan

My wife & I extend our deepest condolences to all involved.
We are both formerly from Long Island, NY and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in Fall 2000.
We have watched / read about the Iditarod for many years with both excitement and trepidation.
This being Easter Day, perhaps we can find a way to vent our sorrow and also forgive the human error. Thank you.

The one dog, Aries is now paralyzed and the other dog, Lorney deceased. Who was the snowmachiner? If the dogs names are used and the mushers name is released then it is far to report the snow machine man and his passenger.
