State lawmakers attending the Energy Council meeting in Washington, DC are mulling over potential difficulties in updating a license to export liquefied Alaska natural gas to overseas markets. Backers of an All-Alaska line acquired the license nearly 20 years ago in hopes of shipping North Slope gas to Asian markets. But in a Wednesday meeting with a top Energy Department official and staffers, Alaska lawmakers were told they should not assume it would be considered valid now.

Finally, an eloquent and powerful voice advocating that Alaska Natives and American Indians deserve more. I’ve always grown up hearing how much Alaska Natives get, get, get from the Federal government when in reality that government has been morbidly negligent, as anyone familiar with Native issues would know. Kudos to Valerie Davidson for speaking out and for our aboriginal American citizens. Her stunning and moving delivery was breathtaking.

It is very hard on native communities in western Aleutian island communities not only because of high petroleum prices but its high travel costs and shipping…Atka for example a very bea8utiful community is served by one air carrier and also one freight carrier which charges very high fees for its services…If the ferry service was availlable that would help out and also some subsidized fuel services would be much appreciated…APICDA as it exists now is a joke…much of its funds are spent on salaries of two CEO’s and a management team not affiliated with the aleut community for which the program was intended…Simple solution…do away with APICDA , and instead let the state allocate funds to communities based on population and or as voted on by the board members…NO ONE IS WATCHING….These communities are very capable of managing their resources if given the chance,,,A fund set aside to reward good management would encourage good performance.
