The Governor’s comments came in a news conference this afternoon – just after the House State Affairs Committee held a two-hour hearing on legislation to relocate sessions to Anchorage and repeal the law that requires Alaskans vote on the costs of relocating the capital or the legislature.

Please move the capital to a location that will allow the people of Alaska an oppertunity to participate and monitor the process of government. Juneau is a closed door to transparency of the government adn perpetuates a culture of corruption through isolation. There can be no public voice, demonstration, and participation by keeping the capital in an isolated, fogged in, remote town. The facilities in Juneau should be utilized by the University of Alaska to expand and build a world class university in that town. Just a thought….

my biggest disapointment in my time in alaska was when the people voted to move the capital. but our vote meant nothing. we would not see the mess we just went thru if vthe capital was located where the people could be part of it

Before the Legislature and Governor spend the “extra” revenue to move the capitol– Can households get an extra tank of fuel oil first; maybe the winter’s cost of electricity; rent assistance for displaced workers; unemployment compensation for those still out of work; how about decent Internet connection; maybe a toll-free number for state offices; how about a community police officer or two; transportation to medical facilities; clean drinking water for elders; flu shots for elders; professional scientific support for the Unorganized Borough (to enable the 200 some communities which must relocate or otherwise deal with environmental changes)…

There is a voice here in Juneau, please don’t think that there isn’t but yes a vast majority of the Ak population resides in the SC region and a vast majority of the infrastructure as well. Even though the move would cost quite a large amount and profoundly effect SE Alaska(most likely negativly) SC AK is still the best location for the majority of AK. As for heating, medicine, ect. for people in AK. IT’S ALASKA, that’s the price for living here. You want the novelty of living in the last frontier then be ready to pay the cost of living without certain comforts and civilized safety.

How selfish can Gov. Palin be? To even consider moving the capital or what goes on here, could destroy this city. With all the state jobs gone, how many unemployed people does that leave? With people moving with their jobs or to get new jobs elsewhere, how will local businesses stay afloat? We all do not rely on tourism. The more businesses close down the more it will break down and destroy our economy. She seems smart enough so I guess she just does not care about anyone but herself. And what will this do to the housing market? The property values are going to plumet, and everyone that owns a home will lose substantial amounts of money. So even if you do leave, you leave with little or no money to start over. I say if you are part of the legislature, live in the capital, dont move the capital to you. Why even have a vote, with Anchorage’s population compared to ours, they might as well just take what they want like pirates. Is there a way to get here out of office early like you can a president? There is no good reason to destroy the second largest city in the state. How can our Govenor be such a heartless tyrant?
