We have WWII and Vietnam vets in Bethel who could elaborate on the inadequate VA support in rural Alaska.
In June of 2006 I calculated the demographic impact of our Guard deployment. I urged *then*
# How do we integrate our veterans back into our time, space, culture? # What questions should we ask so we can be ready?
Oct 24, 2006 APRN (Talk of Alaska) discussed preparations with Dr Cindy Williams and Gen. Campbell. Gen Campbell said then that the deployment impacts could not be planned for– which is untrue, as Dr Williams illustrated. Gen. Campbell had never even considered the impact of that many deployments would have on home communities, much less the returning vets.
I hope Sen. Murkowski is able to get the Veterans Affairs coordinated with veterans and those who make veterans (the military). But I don’t understand why it takes so long even to hear of the issues involved.
