The nuclear reactor that could one day power Galena was in the spotlight this week at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission near Washington, DC. Toshiba and its American subsidiary Westinghouse met with nuclear regulators to summarize the work they have done so far on their innovative “4-S” nuclear reactor design, and to announce plans to turn in a formal license application in about a year.

So the SM-1A on Ft.Greely has a Great Grandchild. Hopefully they wont slam its puke into the aquafier like the breeder on Greely.
hooray for the brainless government bringing nuclear to the great state of alaska. i know how the residents of galena and the surrounding villages feel about this nuclear equipment coming to their own land. we residents of elim 100 miles east of nome have been robbed of our land, tri-ex a mining company has come to the edge of our land to get uranium what is the base for nuclear eveything. whats this world coming to. i feel bad that our kids will have to see the end of our great land and air. making us that much more of a bigger target for enemys.
I certainly hope they get this project licensed as soon as possible. The potential to reduce power costs in the more sizable bush comunities is tremendous. The 4-S design will not only reduce the painful fuel costs associated with the present fuels, but be a major improvement in human safety and a reduction in environmental damage.
