Talk of Alaska: Lifelong Learning

Posted in Talk of Alaska
Education is not just for the young. One-third of the students at the University of Alaska are over 40. Outside Anchorage, the average age of University students is even higher. On the next Talk of Alaska we take a look at the benefits of adult education — professional benefits, but also societal ones. With the great divisions in our society now, is it possible we can learn our way to a greater understanding of one another?
The University of Alaska’s “OLE” program and adult education are our topics on the next Talk of Alaska.

I really enjoyed what I heard today and wanted to second Kathy of Fairbanks’ remarks that the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute here at UAF has been a wonderful experience. My husband and I have visited Katmai NP and are learning about Alaskan Geology and Anthropology, the Dawn of Civilization, and Global Climate Change, as well as having classes from AARP Safe Driving and Pilates. Where else but at a true University would such opportunities be available to Seniors?
I’d like to learn about Charles D. Hayes — where he’s from, especially. I have checked into the September University web site and found many fascinating things to follow up on.
