Does Anchorage still need its vehicle I/M program?

Both Anchorage and Fairbanks have an I/M testing program to help the two cities meet federal clean air standards. Anchorage’s program has proven very successful — so much so that even the city’s mayor is wondering if the I/M program is still needed. So do others. A majority of those speaking at a public forum last night urged doing away with the tests or at least changing them.

its about time someone considers the more important aspects of vehicle inspections…congrats to that.
as far as testing goes, you can check for bad blinker bulbs and whatever else may arise, but who gives a xxxx, really. lights burn out the more they get used. these issues should be the concern of the motor vehicle operater. on the other hand some people do have trouble noticing their hood is popped as they drive 65 or more down the highway. for those concerned with noise
levels, try living near an airport, not AIA but those smaller private strips. those airplanes excede all legal db levels at an idle, and they fly year around during the nightm even. concern yourselfs with safety first. after the entire i/m task force collectivly pulls their heads out of their xxxxx maybe then we can change this for the better. thanks
