Major web site change: June 23, 2007

Posted in Web Updates
APTI’s web sites have moved as of Saturday, June 23. You must now visit those web sites separately at the addresses below:
APRN - Alaska Public Radio Network
http://aprn.org/
KSKA FM 91.1
http://kska.org/
KAKM Channel 7
http://kakm.org/
APTI is moving its sites to a new server for cost cutting reasons and to provide additional web features for listeners and viewers.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The three units (APRN, KSKA, KAKM) will now have independent web sites — they will NOT be bound together with colored tabs at the top. You must visit each site separately.
- Please update your bookmarks, links and other references to the new sites.
- The new sites, while live and online, are NOT READY and are missing large chunks of content. We had to make the site moves before July 1 for technical and contractual reasons, but we have not been able to get everything ready in time for the changes. We will spend the month of July filling out each of the sites as quickly as we can.
Thank you for your patience as we make this transition. We hope you’ll like the new features.
And keep checking back — we’re making daily updates and will also include web status updates on each site to let you know how we’re doing.

This should be very interesting. The new format will allow an update or follow-up. Especially for those out of telephone range, a format like this should be useful. At least, it will be a good experiment. http://edublogs.org is another WordPress multi-user platform experimenting with the weblog format
I hope the transition proceeds smoothly. Will links to the audio files be affected?
Old links to audio files will indeed be affected. They just won’t work, to use the technical term.
New links to audio should be permanent, as they will be hosted on our servers and managed by us directly. So from here on out, if you link to an MP3 file (or a post or whatever), the links should stay stable.
Of course, at some point in the future it’s likely we will change publishing engines again, but I don’t even want to think about that right now!
Keep checking back with us as we fill out the site further and as we add content on a daily (weekdays at least) basis.
Now I have work to do to switch links. However, it is very good news that links won’t expire after 1 year. APRN has always had news stories which are more than a moment’s interest.
Any chance the design can be tweaked slightly to add a calendar-type (month view) archive item? This would be in addition to the navigation buttons (older newer or next previous). I was searching for an item and knew the approximate date, but not the correct search terms.
Currently, one can go to the month, then have to proceed sequentially (loading web page by web page) to get to posts from different days.
Thanks for the suggestion. That makes sense. I’ll try to figure out the best place for a calendar. But it shouldn’t be too hard.
